    Waiwera has a river beach and walking tracks that extend to Wenderholme reserve  to the north, associated with historic colonial farms and houses, including the estate of New Zealand’s third Governor, Sir George Grey.

    Nearby is the Bohemian-settled village of Puhoi, where a cheese factory and museum bear testament to early times.

    Waiwera has a beautiful beach enclosed by bush-clad headlands to the north and south, offering enchanting scenic walks. The view from the beach takes in Rangitoto, Great Barrier and other northern Hauraki Gulf islands, and is a popular stop for “yachties”.

    Geothermally-heated spas and swimming pools are a popular feature all year round, great for family leisure outings, as well as for corporate retreats.

    A short way north of Waiwera is Wenderholme Regional Park, with more bush walks, a beautiful beach and tidal river estuary that offers great bird-watching and kayaking activities.
