Visit Raglan, Waikato, NZ

Raglan is a popular beach resort only 45 minutes’ drive west of Hamilton, and 2 hours from Auckland. It has some of the best surfing waves in the North Island, as is well-established as a surfing centre.

  • Raglan has an “alternative” culture that is rich in music, arts and healing therapies. The town has some excellent galleries and antique shops, as well as a great selection of restaurants and cafes.

    Visitors can enjoy cruising and kayaking on the harbour, or venture to the mountains for bush walks in stunning scenery.

    Tourist Activities around Raglan

    Especially in summer, many people enjoy swimming and surfing at Raglan’s main beach. Surfers also travel a short distance south along the coast to Manu and Whale Bays.

    Raglan Harbour, with arms stretching inland, provides a safe location for boating, fishing and kayaking; the sea offshore is generally rough.

    Mount Karioi, which dominates the sky to the south of Raglan, is a challenging 1-day hike for fit trampers. Mount Pihanga, to the east, is one of the highest in the North Island, and has excellent two and three day walks.

    Raglan’s long, unbroken stretches of coast are ideal for horse trekking, and a number of options are available to enjoying this activity.

    Raglan hosts music and other festivals in summer, at which times the town comes alive, its restaurants and bars filling with a party atmosphere.
