  • Kaiwaka, only a one hour drive from Auckland, is a gateway to Northland. It is a small riverside town situated near Kaipara Harbour, and close to Mangawhai Heads on the coast.

    Kaiwaka is a great place to stop overnight on a journey north from Auckland, and to explore the Kaipara Harbour region’s east and west coasts, including Mangawhai Heads and the Kauri Coast.

    There are various nature walks in the district. The Kaipara Harbour is especially popular with birdwatchers, where it is possible to see godwits, sandpipers, plover and curlew.

    The town has a cheese factory shop and an Italian bakery, making it an ideal place for buying food provisions, including fresh seafood
