  • Eketahuna, 30 minutes drive north of Masterton, is in the Tararua district, named after the mountains to its west. It is a great place for a peaceful, relaxing country vacation, with plenty of places to stay and things to do.

    Eketahuna has many public gardens, parks and forest reserves to enjoy short walks in. Longer hikes are available along the river or in the nearby Tararua mountains. Hunting and trout fishing in this region are popular, and guided expeditions can be arranged in Eketahuna.
