  • Doubtless Bay, just over one hour north of the Bay of Islands, is world-famous for its big game fishing and its diving attractions. Its two main destinations, Mangonui, Cooper’s beach and Cable Bay, have a vibrant arts scene and many restaurants, bistros and cafes, where seafood is often a speciality.

    The Karikari peninsula extends from the northern end of Doubtless Bay’s 70 Km-long beach. A mainly unspoiled wilderness, it provides great opportunities for sailing, kayaking, hiking and diving.

    Sailing, kayaking and surfing are all popular attractions of the region. The sheltered anchorage of Mangonui Harbour provides a safe family environment for aquatic activities.

    The waters of Doubtless Bay are renowned for their big game fishing potential. Record size marlin and other billfish have been caught from vessels based at Mangonui Harbour. Tuna, kingfish and shark are also challenging catches. Many ocean fishing charter vessels operate from the harbour.

    Some of NZ’s best scuba diving locations are within easy reach. To the south lie the world-renowned Cavalli Islands and the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior. To the north, on the Karikari Peninsula, are dense stands of black coral. A diving charter and equipment rental is easily booked at Mangonui.

    The Karikari Peninsula extends from the northern end of 70 Km of unspoiled beach. It s largely a wilderness area, with plenty of walking tracks and secluded beaches.
